Advice for Beginners

I'm also thinking of starting a webhost, and as you're already in this business, what adive can you give Allan?

Best advice I can give is make sure you know how to help others, support is the biggest thing that could kill host.

No problem, the other thing I wanted to mention is make sure you have patience. It will take a long time before you see clients and making a profit.

Actually I'm thinking of starting a web dev company in my hometown, so want to use a reseller hosting service for that.

resellers are a great place to start, they are pretty cheap and come with a lot of extra's.

I used Hostgator for a long time, but I realized they are very expensive for what they are offering. I would advice you to google and read reviews.

I agree that overselling is nice, but if you watch your space you can upgrade packages before you run into problems.

And is there any worth going for other than hostgator?

I wouldn't personally recommend HostGator or the EIG brands. Their servers are nice and fast, or were when I had a site hosted there, but not being able to oversell is going to be seriously annoying and it will restrict your profits considerably. I would suggest you check out some of the offers that are posted around and perhaps ask for a trial to check server load and speed.

Problem I had with hostgator was my sites would run great then at peak times they would barely load at all. The massive overselling they do is unreal.
